It is always impressive how beavers are able to fell trees. Along the river behind our house, they are pretty active in the past years. Last week, by looking out of the window, I saw that they managed to cut down a large poplar.

Swimming upstream from the river Maas

In 1992 a group of beaver from  the Eifel (low mountain range in Germany, Belgium and Luxemburg) were released at the banks of the river Maas and swim upstream the river Niers al the way to us.

„Poor creatures, they worked for day’s to harvest this tree but unfortunately it fell in the arms of a neighbour poplar“

With their strong, always growing, orange colored teeth they are able to fell a 25cm (10 inch) thick tree in just 4 hours. Poor fellows, they worked for day’s to harvest this tree but unfortunately, it fell in the arms of a neighbour poplar.
